The OnSafety™ Safety Portal is a Safety Analysis & Reporting engine. It is part of a multi-tiered Enterprise system designed for integrating and analyzing crash and crash-related data. The OnSafety system includes the most useful array of safety analysis and reporting tools available in the marketplace.

Safety Dashboard

The OnSafety™ Safety Portal is  is flexible, with both desktop and mobile access. It’s based on a portal framework and is modular in design. The portal’s dashboard is comprised of numerous integrated “portlets” (applications).

Frequency Portlet – Provides the ability to perform frequency analysis on any variable, within any dataset, using any dataset filter. Results can be displayed either by table or grid. Data can additionally be filtered to remove zeros.

Locator Portlet – Acts as a central navigator to all other portlets. It provides the ability to enter a location which is then sent to the other portlets. It provides the ability to navigate by form or by map.

Filter Portlet – Provides the ability to create and modify filters. Filtering is one of the most powerful capabilities of the software and can be used to slice and dice datasets into specific items of interest.

Crosstab Portlet – Provides the ability to analyze the product of two dataset variables within a cross-tabulation. The user may select from any dataset, select any dataset filter, and select two variables to compare. The results are displayed within a data grid and may be displayed in graph form as well.

Map Portlet – Provides the ability to display filtered crash results on a map; it displays a basemap and filters results. The initial version of the portlet supports crash data; subsequent releases will include roadway data (lines). The initial release includes a legend, which will grow in sophistication with subsequent releases. The Map Portlet’s primary ability will be to display “located” data based upon “location” and applied filters. An ancillary function will include the ability to save locations.

Diagram Portlet – There are two diagram portlets provided within the core engine:

1) an Intersection Collision Diagram report portlet, and (2) a Straight-Line Diagram report portlet. Both of these are in report format and are automatically generated after a location has been selected. These diagram modules are not intended to replace complete applications, but rather, are used to generate quick reports.

Reporting Portlet – Location-specific reporting provides the ability to output results into sophisticated pre-defined reports.

The initial system will include four example reports:

  • Segment Report
  • Intersection Report
  • Segment Crash Summary Report
  • Intersection Crash Summary Report

Impact Portlet – Compares the results of two filters. This is often the comparison of one filter against its complement. The results are provided within a data grid format.

Location Hub

A key element of the OnSafety™ Safety Portal design is the use of a “location hub”. The location hub provides integration between the portlets based upon a location. The architecture of the location hub is organized by a “spoke and hub”. Each spoke contains listeners and triggers which react any time a location has changed. The hub receives location information and distributes it to the various spokes. For example, when a location is set in the locator portlet, a) a filter is created for the location, (b) a default frequency is created, (c) a default crosstab is created, (d) a default comparison is run, (e) a default report is run, and (f) a collision diagram or straight-line diagram is created.
