Mobile Crash Data Collection
KāPix™
Crash-scene data collection, reinvented for the officer in the field.
Crash data is only as good as what’s collected at the scene.
KāPix captures a precise crash location, clean officer documentation, and critical field data automatically, in 5 minutes instead of 50.
Snap a few photos of the documents on scene, and KāPix does the rest: reading IDs, vehicle registrations, and insurance cards, pinpointing the exact crash location, and even helping sketch the crash scene, all before the officer leaves.
No specialized hardware. No barcode scanners. Just the phone already in an officer’s pocket.

Three Tools, One App
KāPix is built in layers, so agencies can start with what they need and add more as it makes sense.
LRS-matched milepost · Route ID · GPS coordinates · 100+ auto-populated form fields · Auto-Drawn Sketch
KāPix Core
Photograph a driver’s license, vehicle registration, or insurance card, and KāPix reads it and sends it to your crash form. No barcode, no DMV connection, no typing.
KāPix + LRS
An add-on that turns KāPix into a full field geolocation tool, pinpointing route, milepost, and intersection detail without a separate device or system.
KāPix Sketch
Auto-drawing + drag-and-drop crash diagramming that turns a crash scene into a clean, useable drawing in only a few short minutes. No art degree required.
— The Problem
Your crash data was broken before
it left the scene.
For the GIS Team
You’re geocoding what officers guessed.
Milepost values estimated from roadside markers. Route IDs (if any) are entered from memory. GPS left blank when an officer was rushed. By the time a record reaches your database, the location has already degraded. KāPix captures GPS, calculates LRS milepost, matches the official centerline, and computes intersection distance and direction at the scene — automatically.
For the DOT Safety Engineer
Network screening is only as precise as the data feeding it.
HSM network screening, HSIP project selection, and SS4A action plans depend on crash locations that map cleanly to your road network. When fields are missing or estimated, crash clusters become invisible and safety dollars land in the wrong place. KāPix produces map-ready location fields for every crash, on every road class.
For the Traffic Sergeant
Officers are handwriting data that’s already on a card in the driver’s pocket.
License. Registration. Insurance. CMV docs. Everything the report needs is right there — but officers copy it by hand, on the shoulder, while traffic passes. KāPix photographs those documents and auto-populates 100+ fields in under 5 minutes. Officers clear the scene faster, the data is cleaner, and the report feeds the RMS directly.
KāPix is not a replacement for your RMS or state crash system — this is a field-capture platform that feeds your system with better data, from a faster process, that officers will actually use. iOS and Android · Offline capable · RMS API integration.
— What is Does
Five problems. One app. One workflow.
For GIS Teams and DOT Safety Engineers
KāPix +LRS
When an officer arrives at a crash scene, KāPix performs every location calculation automatically — using the device’s GPS position cross-referenced against your agency’s GIS road centerline and Linear Referencing System (LRS) datasets.
Official Roadway Names
GPS position is matched against your official Roadway Names database to identify the correct roadway name in the exact spot along the route. Multiple names along the same route? Local name, state name, concatenated names. No problem, we handle that.
Linear Milepost Reference
We use your state’s official LRS to calculate route mileage and milepost values automatically — we even handle equations. Officers don’t need to estimate from a roadside marker, they simply drop a pin and the values are calculated instantly.
Intersection References
KāPix computes the distance and compass direction from the nearest intersection — a required field on most report forms — without officer input, tape measures, or estimations.
Crash Geolocation
Latitude and longitude are captured by the app, every time. No transcription errors or missing negative signs for Crash Records team to fix after the fact. Location metadata is immutably attached to every record.
Offline Location Capture
KāPix captures GPS coordinates locally even without connectivity. Roadway name and milepost run against cached GIS and LRS data. Rural dead zones don’t degrade quality.
Temporal LRS Support
KāPix retrieves the milepost in effect on the date of the crash. When paired with our SafetyPortal, that location sticks, even after route renaming or realignment.
KāPix +LRS is not just phone GPS. It is officer-confirmed, LRS-matched, intersection-referenced crash locations — the same fields your safety engineers need for HSM network screening, HSIP project selection, and High Injury Network analysis.
For Traffic Sergeants & Records Managers
KāPix Core
Three photos. 100+ fields. Under 5 minutes.
Officers photograph the license, registration, and insurance card for each party. KāPix reads those documents — any U.S. state, most other countries, any insurance carrier, no barcode required — and auto-populates ~100 crash report fields. No handwriting. No transcription errors. No re-entry at the station.
- Works with any state-issued ID and any insurance card
- No DMV connection or barcode dependency
- OCR-extracted data feeds directly to crash form fields
- Reduces field-to-crash form data errors at the source
For Traffic Sergeants & Records Managers
KāPix Sketch
A professional crash diagram, on the phone, in about 3 minutes.
Officers select the view of the crash scene from a satellite base map and then lets Sketch auto-draw the roadway. Officers position vehicle and pedestrian icons to reconstruct the scene and KāPix Sketch sends it straight to crash form or lets you export it as a PNG or PDF. No artistic skill required. No guessing what the diagram meant six months later in court.
- Auto drawn (from satellite) roadways & intersections
- Built-in vehicle, pedestrian, and object icon library
- Shareable via email, text, or direct RMS API
- Completed in 3 minutes or less on scene
For Legal, Risk Management, and IT
Chain-of-Evidence Image Sequestration
Photos never touch the phone’s camera roll.
Every image captured in KāPix is sequestered within the app from the moment of capture. Photos never appear in the officer’s personal image gallery — they’re pushed directly from the app to secure cloud storage for whatever retention time your department dictates. This is a technical control, not a policy your officers have to remember to follow.
- Images are isolated at capture, not stored in a gallery
- Secure cloud push via certificate-authenticated API
- Audit-ready chain of custody for every crash record
- Offline capable: captured locally auto-sync when connected
For Officers
KāPix Narration (coming soon!)
Voice Narration with AI Transcription
Officers record a voice narration of what they observed at the scene for the crash form narrative and synopsis.
KāPix transcribes it automatically into structured narrative text for the report. No typing on a small screen at the roadside. No narrative written hours later from memory — the officer’s account, captured at the scene, in their own words.
— The Workflow Steps
Scene Arrival to Crash Data Collection Complete.
At least 7x faster than what you’re doing now.
Arrive & Locate
KāPix calculates crash location at arrival — route ID, milepost, GPS, intersection reference. Officer confirms. Done.
Capture Documents
Officer photographs license, registration, and insurance for each party. 100+ fields auto-populate from the photos.
Diagram the Scene
KāPix Sketch auto-draws the roadway fro satellite view and the officer drops the vehicle icons on the diagram.
Submit
Crash data pushed to the agency's RMS via secure API. Location, documents and diagram. No re-entry.
— Implementation
Operational in Months, not Years.
Platform
Built on the phones you already issue.
Available on iOS and Android from the App Store and Google Play. Deployable like any approved application. No proprietary hardware required.
Integration
Standards-based RMS connection.
An HTTPS REST API connects KāPix to your existing RMS — certificate-authenticated, TLS 1.3, OWASP-aligned. Your GIS and LRS datasets are integrated once and kept current through versioned updates pushed to officer devices.
Configuration
Tuned to your state, not generic.
ITIS integrates your state’s road centerline and LRS during onboarding. Roadway name normalization, milepost output format, intersection snap parameters, and offline tile caching are all configured to your agency before deployment.
Procurement & grant eligibility
Grant-eligible. Cooperative contract available. No RFP required.
KāPix is available through NASPO ValuePoint contract AR2472 via Carahsoft — a cooperative purchasing vehicle accepted by most state and local government agencies. No competitive RFP is required. Typical procurement cycle is about two weeks from decision to contract execution.
Confirmed eligibility for SEDC (State Electronic Data Collection) grant funding, KāPix directly addresses all six NHTSA Section 405(c) traffic records quality criteria: quality, accuracy, timeliness, completeness, uniformity, and accessibility. Agencies with active NHTSA traffic-records or SHSO grants should consult their grant administrator about funding KāPix as an eligible line item.
Also available via OMNIA Partners (Cobb County 23-6692-01 and Region 4 R240303).
NASPO ValuePoint California participating addendum confirmed.

Faster: Reports completed roughly 7x faster than paper or manual entry.
Safer: Officers spend less time stationary at the roadside = less exposure to passing traffic.
More accurate: OCR accuracy that beats hand transcription under field conditions, no illegible names, no transposed VINs.
Adaptable: Works offline; nothing is lost in coverage gaps.
Secure: Scene photos are sequestered inside the app the moment they’re captured, never in a personal camera roll.
Flexible: Data pushed into the RMS your agency already uses, on devices officers already carry.
